I am an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, self-taught chef, and yogi. Cooking is my deepest expression of love and creativity, and cooking healing meals is my passion. I feel most alive eating a carrot freshly pulled from the earth. But I also feel really alive after my morning coffee.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and then studied Public Health at the University of California Irvine. While in college, I was a sample girl for an organic fruit farmer at the local farmers' market. It was there that I discovered the unsurpassed deliciousness and life force found in fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. After graduating, I knew I wanted to work with food so I did the adult thing and became a Food Safety & Quality Assurance professional. Five years later, wanting to "touch" peoples' lives in a more direct and impactful way, I decided to become a yoga teacher through YogaTreeSF. Learning the teachings of yoga taught me that although I wasn’t quite ready to be a yoga teacher, I wanted to learn deeper and more aligned means to health, which I found in Ayurveda.
So I quit my job and moved to beautiful Nevada City to study at the California College of Ayurveda. Upon completing my studies, my heart was directed towards channeling my newfound knowledge of health and balanced living with my unceasing passion for cooking with fresh and local food. Thus, The Ayurvedic Chef was born.
In my free time I can be found shopping at local farmers' markets, mountain biking, taking photos of nature, staring into the sunset, doing yoga, cooking for friends and family, and most definitely eating.
Spreading the Joy of Holistic Cooking
Food has the potential to be incredibly healing or incredibly destructive. Good health starts with good digestion, and good digestion of the right food becomes the substance of our bodies. It's a common misconception that healthy food isn't tasty food. It is of my Ayurvedic opinion that healing food should please all of the senses while nourishing the body for a satisfying and holistic experience. When properly prepared and eaten, food has the power to prevent - and in many cases, reverse - disease. My mantra before cooking each healing meal is "Make Medicine, Not Food."
